Boating Tips!

Founded in 1933 for the purpose of promoting yachting and sailboat racing is our history. Currently about half of our members are boaters. Most moor their boats in our harbor. If you are a Swampscott Resident, the annual ‘Town’ mooring fee is quite affordable when compared to other harbors. There are two practical ways to access your boat from the beach/pier, rowing or ‘Water Taxi’. If you wish to use your own pram, storage is the challenge. It will be necessary to take your chance with the Town lottery for storage space. Leaving your pram or kayak on the beach and taking your chances, is not an option. A Town registration sticker is a must! Make it easy for your self and family by adding the launch service to your membership. SYC’s ‘Water Taxi’ service operates form the tip of the Town pier to all harbor moorings. It operates 7 days per week, from Labor Day – Memorial Day (Weather permitting, the service dates will be extended at no additional charge). If you are new to the harbor, we can help ‘streamline’ the process to get your boat in the water. Fisherman’s Beach also has free parking. Trailer parking is available through the town on a season long basin. There is no longer daily trailer parking at any of our Town beaches.

Sailing, and especially Thursday night racing, has become a favorite time. Not all boats are fast but all have fun. SYC is also the home of the Towns Teen Summer Sailing Program. Did we say fishing? There are many fishing stories about our local Stripers and Blue Fish. A few more about Blue Fin Tuna. I’ll say nothing except grab your fishing gear and get the bait in the water! SYC sponsors monthly and year long Fishing tournaments.
