2025
NINETEENTH ANNUAL STRIPED BASS TOURNAMENT

THE TOURNAMENT WILL START 6:00 A.M., FRIDAY, MAY 23, 2025, AND END 6:00 P.M., SATURDAY, OCTOBER 4, 2025.  THE AWARDS WILL BE PRESENTED ON SUNDAY, OCTOBER 5, 2025, AT 6:00 PM AT THE SYC.

Rules   Stripers must be caught in Massachusetts waters. All state and federal laws apply.

For up-to-date information Google: Recreational saltwater fishing regulations.

  1. ELIGIBILITY:  A. MEMBERS. SYC Members and their immediate family. Guests fishing with a member: i) on a member’s boat, or ii) from Swampscott’s pier or beaches.  N.B. Guests fishing with a member must have the member witness the guest’s weigh slip.

B. FISH.  After the first three stripers are entered in the tournament a larger striper must displace a striper already in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place to be entered on the Standings sheet.  Standings are posted at the SYC. Call Gene O’Brien if you have questions.

  1. ENTRY FEE: $30.00/person. Send/give it to Gene O’Brien.*  If you enter the tournament after it starts you must wait 24 hours before entering an eligible fish.

  2. IMPORTANT: From the moment a fish takes the bait or lure, that angler alone must fight the fish and no other person may touch the rod, reel, or line to assist the angler in any way, except another person may grasp the line, leader, or fish, so as to land the fish.

  3. Here’s how to measure your fish:

  • Measure from the tip of the lower jaw (with the mouth closed if possible) to the farthest extremity of the tail, with the tail lobes pinched together, if you can.

  • Photograph the striper with the measuring tape in full view. Send the photo to Gene.

  • The longest fish wins.  (Recommended: take a measurement, w/pic, of the girth of the fish. If there is a tie, e.g., two fish each measuring 54” (c’mon think big), the fish with the largest girth wins.)

  1. Weigh slip must be delivered to Gene O’Brien within ten days of the catch or it will be disqualified. (Recommended: if there’s a witness have him/her sign your slip.)

  2. WINNERS: There will be three winners. The split: 50/30/20. You can only win one. (You must be present at the awards presentation to win available door prizes, if any.**)

  3. All weigh slips and photographs must be given/sent to Gene O’Brien.  (See below.)

  4. VERY IMPORTANT: No weigh slip/photo = no prize.  Stripers caught during another SYC tournament are eligible - these Rules apply.

*Entry forms & weigh slips are available at the Club, online at the SYC website, and from Gene O’Brien. Any questions call/text Gene at 617-271-6509, or email to: geneardri@hotmail.com. Send entry fees, entry forms, and weigh slips to Gene. Forms/fees/weigh slips can be delivered to Gene at 11 Fuller Avenue, Swampscott, in-hand at the SYC, the pier, the beach, or boat-to-boat.  Weigh slips can be sent via text, or email to: geneardri@hotmail.com, or by in-hand delivery.  Entry fees also can be sent via Venmo to Eugene-OBrien-14.
