About this event
In 2026 not only will the Northeast Ocean Race Symposium be packed with educational activities for cruisers and racers alike, but it will feature Ronnie Simpson. Ronnie is a 40-year-old professional sailor and former skipper of the Open 50 Shipyard Brewing which competed in 2023-24 in the first-ever Global Solo Challenge: a single-handed non-stop sailing race around the world. Sailing most of the race in third place, Ronnie was dismasted after Cape Horn. Having already cleared all three of the Great Capes, he was unable to finish the race. Undeterred, Ronnie is now campaigning to compete in the second edition of the Global Solo Challenge in October of 2027 on a Class 40. He will speak about his experiences and lessons learned from his first GSC participation, while also setting the stage for his second participation.
Our in-person only event will feature all new topics covering Heavy Weather Management, Lithium-Ion Battery Care, Optimizing Downwind Sailing, Engine Preparation when Going Offshore, Sustainable Ocean Racing, and more to be announced. We will return to the same place that has consistently received rave reviews from our attendees. All four northeast ocean races, including the Marion Bermuda Race (lead organizer), the Marblehead Halifax Race, the Bermuda 1-2 Race, and Newport Bermuda Race are sponsoring NORS 2026.
